New Ireland Day/Remembrance Day was recently celebrated here in Kavieng. Remembrance Day is their Memorial Day. This is celebrated with all sorts of fun activities such as boat races (40hp, 60hp, and canoes), a swim race, coconut throw, Ms./Mr. New Ireland competition, traditional dances, and my favorite, the slippery pole climb. It was a lovely day spent on the beach eating hamburgers and enjoying all the festivities. I'll let the pictures tell it all.

Victoria and Uncle Nick hanging out. Victoria has an orange face because orange and blue are New Ireland flag colors. |

Just hanging out being cute and dripping ice cream everywhere. I adore this child. |

If I were ever to kidnap a child, she would be the one. |

How many men does it take to climb a greasy pole? The answer is A LOT! |
How to get the grease off? Roll around on the beach. |
Lots of sand for lots of grease. |
